The power have been out for over 62 hours now (went dark at 9:30 pm Thursday). Yesterday morning the my power company indicated that there were 750K households in the dark. This morning the number is down to 300K - progress, but not for me.
We stayed in a hotel last night frankly because is it very cold here now, the low last night was around 25F, the house got down to 50F, so just for a bit of normalcy and comfort we decided that we'd get a room for a couple of nights and hopefully it will A.) warm up a bit, and B.) the power will come back. Both scenarios are welcome right now.
I seem to get 6+ hours on a tank of fuel on the generator (again, THANKS to Rich for parking that here). The sounds of generators fill the area as most of us out here are on wells for our water.

Posted by Timothy at December 17, 2006 10:46 AMWow, I guess Brenda and I got off easy. We never lost power and only saw 1 tree come down and it was a half mile from our property. Perhaps the 20" of snow we had a few weeks ago took all the weak trees out then - there were over 40 of them that came down on the road/power lines that week.
But thankfully we have a 7 kW generator w/a transfer switch, our furnace, water heater and range are all gas, we have a 300 gal tank of LP for them and we managed 3 days w/o power during the snow.
Glad to hear you all are all right. Falling trees scare the, uh, poop, outta me. There is NOTHING that makes the sound like 50' or more of a tree hitting the ground.
Give all hugs...
