That's gonna leave a mark....

Well there I was with my daughter right after she had awaken from a nice afternoon nap. We were sitting there watching an Elmo DVD when there was a loud "THUD" outside and the power went out. My first thought was that a transformer blew out by the street. So off I went to look (for continuity sake, I handed my daughter off to her mommy).

Taken after the police arrived

The first thing I see as I hike down the driveway were my garbage cans knocked over and garbage strewn about, as I get closer there are cars pulling over and low and behold, this car .... It is 1:30pm

...ouch...

And upon yet closer investigation I put the pieces together and figured out that he had just hit the utility pole (and he is lucky to be unhurt). As you can see the pole is broken and it caused the line fuse on the pole to blow, which equals no power.

...OUCH...

Well the dark house didn't sit well with the little one so we decided we needed to go out for dinner, and off we went! It is now 4:30pm. The repair crew had just arrived around 6pm as we got back from dinner so we decided to head out to the mall for a bit, let Bobbin play at in the play area, and hang out where there was light. Hit R.E.I to get some lanterns and batteries (this weeks project, an emergency kit for 3 days or survival, I let you know how that goes).

man it's dark over here

As we got closer to home we wondered if the work was done yet or not as we noticed the bright glow in the sky in the distance, that was the crew at our house. When then got home yet again around 8:30-ish, the crew had our driveway blocked so we parked across the street and "walked in".

I mean really dark

I fired up the generator (thanks Rich) and got some light going and get Bobbin ready for bed. I checked the phone and it still worked (yay). Around 10pm I saw a light move down the driveway, so I stepped out to the deck, and it was a workman getting our house un-bypassed and he said, "it would not be long now". So around 10pm the house light up (yay) and I quickly went to work "turning on" the rest of the house and getting the generator offline and headed across the street to get our car.

It took the crew 20 minutes to clear out of the driveway. I finally get back in the house to finish up and check email ... but wait I see that the network is not connecting to the internet ... hmmm .... I pickup the phone and guess what NO DIAL TONE, but it just work a couple of hours ago .... THANK YOU PSE for cutting my phone line and not telling anyone.

I called the phone company as soon as I realized what was wrong, they logged my call and scheduled the soonest repair appointment, they have me all fixed up no later than 5pm Tuesday, you have to be kidding me. I called PSE to speak to a supervisor, none to be found, they don't have any on duty on the weekends, just a crew of telephone operator/dispatchers to take power outage calls. Long story short I was lucky to have the phone company arrive this afternoon and get that fixed by 3:15pm.

PSE, be ready I'm calling your ass tomorrow morning.

3 Power Outages in 5 Days

Two of those mere hours apart - Unacceptable. PSE said the two latest were a direct result of an accident caused by a construction crew earlier (5 days ago). Anyways - we are that much closer to getting a generator, like all my neighbors already have (that were fired up last night).

What would Bridgestone do?

Well I watched the USGP with disgust today as only 6 cars raced (Bridgestone users). The rest of the field (all using Michelin tires) opted not to race in a very confusing and annoying protest.

My opinion, those Michelin teams had choices (within the rules) and made the wrong one. Good job shooting Formula One in the foot in the U.S.A.

Would there be this much controversy if the tables were reversed? My answer - PROBABLY NOT.

LIARS!

Its interesting to PAY ATTENTION ... but some of them seem to think that we do not .... From Last nights debate ...

SEANTOR EDWARDS: ... And these connections -- I want the American people to hear this very clearly. Listen carefully to what the vice president is saying. Because there is no connection between Saddam Hussein and the attacks of September 11th -- period.

The 9/11 Commission has said that's true. Colin Powell has said it's true. But the vice president keeps suggesting that there is. There is not. And, in fact, any connection with Al Qaida is tenuous at best.

THEN Vice President Cheney said at last night's debate,

"The senator has got his facts wrong. I have not suggested there's a connection between Iraq and 9/11, but there's clearly an established Iraqi track record with terror."

BUT Vice President Cheney said on September 13, 2003 (on Meet The Press)

MR. RUSSERT: The Washington Post asked the American people about Saddam Hussein, and this is what they said: 69 percent said he was involved in the September 11 attacks. Are you surprised by that?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: No. I think it’s not surprising that people make that connection.

MR. RUSSERT: But is there a connection?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: We don’t know. You and I talked about this two years ago. I can remember you asking me this question just a few days after the original attack. At the time I said no, we didn’t have any evidence of that. Subsequent to that, we’ve learned a couple of things. We learned more and more that there was a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaeda that stretched back through most of the decade of the ’90s, that it involved training, for example, on BW and CW, that al-Qaeda sent personnel to Baghdad to get trained on the systems that are involved. The Iraqis providing bomb-making expertise and advice to the al-Qaeda organization.

We know, for example, in connection with the original World Trade Center bombing in ’93 that one of the bombers was Iraqi, returned to Iraq after the attack of ’93. And we’ve learned subsequent to that, since we went into Baghdad and got into the intelligence files, that this individual probably also received financing from the Iraqi government as well as safe haven.

Now, is there a connection between the Iraqi government and the original World Trade Center bombing in ’93? We know, as I say, that one of the perpetrators of that act did, in fact, receive support from the Iraqi government after the fact. With respect to 9/11, of course, we’ve had the story that’s been public out there. The Czechs alleged that Mohamed Atta, the lead attacker, met in Prague with a senior Iraqi intelligence official five months before the attack, but we’ve never been able to develop anymore of that yet either in terms of confirming it or discrediting it.

The Entire transcript is HERE

Does anyone else hear and read the same things I do?
THIS IS WHY IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE TO VOTE THIS YEAR

NBC-HD YOU SUCK!

I have to say that you totally did a number on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies! The same 30 second spot over and and over and over. The "technical difficulties", the really bad commentary. The funny thing is, you had 11 hours to polish it and make quite the presentation, yet you didn't.

If this was an attempt to win more people over to NBC-HD - - YOU BLEW IT! All of my guests could not see the big deal, they were less than impressed. They really saw no need to even consider NBC-HD, yet alone HD programming at all.

Plain and Simple, you totally trashed the Olympic Opening Ceremonies (at least in this market).

It's too bad too, thankfully for me I can watch the Canadian coverage, which is a 100 times better.

My body hurts!

Last night was the first of Rich's exercise on Mondays program, several people showed up to roller blade and walk, I elected to ride my bike and get some miles on it. Well after a 8 mile (I think) bike ride last night I am definitely feeling the results. BUT for a little while last night my mind was clear!
